Funding FOSS
1% of XWiki yearly recurrent revenue
will be donated to FOSS development.
Why we're making the donation
At XWiki, we deeply value the open-source community and recognize its crucial role in driving innovation and collaboration in the software industry.
As beneficiaries and contributors to this ecosystem, we believe it is our responsibility to give back and support the projects that have made significant impacts.
By donating 1% of our yearly recurrent revenue to open-source projects, we aim to foster further development, ensure sustainability, and express our gratitude to the community that has helped us grow.
- Ludovic Dubost, CEO & Founder of XWiki & Cryptpad
The recipient organizations
In our first funding cycle, which covers years 2021 to 2023, we have allocated a total of 28,000€ to various open-source projects. This figure represents our commitment to supporting the diverse range of tools and platforms that our teams and the wider community rely on.
Here are the top ten recipients of our donations - these projects were selected based on the input from our internal teams, considering our own usage, the alignment with our values, and the needs of funding of the developers. Each donation helps ensure the longevity and growth of these tools.
Other organizations that we support
In addition to our FOSS fund, XWiki also subscribes to and supports other open-source software and industry associations that play a crucial role in our operations and the broader OSS landscape. Our membership and support of these associations reflect our dedication to fostering a vibrant and sustainable open-source ecosystem.
A movie
A special note about the sponsoring of the Movie planned by the FSFE: Ada & Zangemann: A Tale of Software, Skateboards, and Raspberry Ice Cream. We are happy to put our highest funding of 4000 Euros for this movie as we believe that education about Open Source is very important. We are many in the technology world to understand the importance of Open Source, but we still have to make it more understandable to non technological people that don't fully grasp the issues that Open Source can solve. The book "Ada & Zangemann" explains well the issues at hand and we believe that the planned animated movie will help bring this to more people.
Get involved
We are proud to take this step in supporting the open-source community and invite feedback and suggestions from our employees, partners, and the wider community.
This initiative is just the beginning, and we look forward to refining and expanding our support for open-source projects in the years to come. This is also why we have also joined the French "Copie Publique" group in order to communicate and share with other open-source contributors our commitment to help the eco-system.
