This year was truly special — XWiki turned 20! Every year, we come together as a team to celebrate, reflecting on what we've accomplished and gearing up for the future. But this year, we took it up a notch. We held a summit that brought together our clients and team members to collaborate, share ideas, and shape the future of XWiki. To top it off, we celebrated with a scenic Seine River cruise alongside our team, alumni, clients, and open-source friends, connecting and enjoying this incredible milestone together.
The first XWiki Summit
We kicked off the summit with smiles, coffee, and excitement. This wasn’t just another day — it was our 20th anniversary, and the room was buzzing with energy as team members, clients, and partners gathered to celebrate two decades of open-source innovation.
A few key moments really stood out:
- Ludovic Dubost, our founder, gave a heartfelt look back at XWiki’s journey from its beginnings to the thriving platform we know today.
- We heard inspiring client stories from our long-time clients SFR and the HLS, showcasing how XWiki is making a real difference.
- Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloud, delivered a keynote on European digital sovereignty, a topic that truly aligns with our mission.
The summit wasn’t just about looking back, though. We brainstormed new features, explored future projects, and felt the magic of collaboration as we all came together to shape the next chapter of XWiki.
To wrap up the day, we celebrated with a beautiful Seine River cruise on Locenyius péniche. As the sun set over Paris, we sailed with our team, alumni, clients, and friends, enjoying laughter, toasts, and reflections on how far we’ve come — and how much we have to look forward to.
XWiki Seminar: Work hard, play harder
But the excitement didn’t stop there. After the summit, we headed to Les Jardins de l'Atlantique in Talmont Saint Hilaire for our annual XWiki Seminar. It was a chance for our remote-first team to step away from the daily grind and come together in person to recharge, brainstorm, and enjoy each other’s company. With 57 team members attending in person and 7 joining remotely, it was the largest seminar in XWiki history — a true reflection of how much we’ve grown as a team since the 2023 seminar.
This year’s theme was Fort Boyard, the XWiki way, and we embraced it with fun team-building activities. We split into teams, tackled challenges, and collected clues, but in the end, the best reward was the time spent together, laughing, learning, and strengthening our connections.
While the fun was a highlight, the seminar was also a time to get down to business. We had inter-team sessions where we brainstormed new ways to improve, and the CryptPad team led an inspiring session on cryptology and privacy, sparking valuable discussions. Our annual hackathon was another highlight, bringing teams together to develop innovative features and push the limits of what XWiki can do.
Here’s what we aimed for at the seminar:
✅ Reconnect with colleagues we don’t often work with in person.
✅ Brainstorm new ideas and improve processes.
✅ Recharge and come back with renewed energy and motivation.
✅ Have fun and enjoy time together as a team.
And, of course, we made plenty of time for downtime. From shared meals to board games and even a lively karaoke night, the week was filled with moments that brought us closer as a team. We captured lots of photos too, which perfectly reflect the energy, camaraderie, and fun we had.
By the end of the week, we walked away with fresh ideas, stronger bonds, and the excitement to drive XWiki forward.
