Events we've attended from April to June

This second quarter was a busy one for us, as it was filled with vibrant open-source events where we actively participated with talks about XWiki and CryptPad, and two new innovative products (details inside the article!). We also took the opportunity to network with partners, industry leaders and enthusiastic attendees, all eager to learn more about our software solutions. We bring you below some sneak peeks from the conferences we attended, and stay tuned for our upcoming third quarter event updates!

💻 FII Code

We started the month of April by getting involved in a local event in Iași, Romania, dedicated to young students with a passion for programming. Ștefana, our Pro Apps & Cloud Product Manager and Ludovic, our Founder and CEO, represented XWiki SAS and took the opportunity to educate young students and discuss with them about the open-source movement seen through the lenses of our 2 products: XWiki and CryptPad. It was a very rewarding experience for the students, but for us as well!

Ludovic was also part of the jury that chose the solutions on the winners’ list. Kudos to the teams involved and mentored by our colleague, Neculai!

💬 Nextcloud Enterprise Day

An event we totally looked forward to was Nextcloud Enteprise Day, the meeting point for leading IT experts and key players of the European IT market. Here, Ludovic and Clément represented XWiki and CryptPad and welcomed guests at our booth to discuss ways in which our 2 software solutions are shaping the future of content collaboration. Additionally, Clément, our Director of Sales and Professional Services, talked about openDesk with a focus on how XWiki and CryptPad can be integrated in Nextcloud Hub for secure document collaboration. He also provided an outlook on the integration of the XWiki software within Nextcloud Files for better knowledge management inside your organization.

👀 JdLL

In May, we were happy to attend Journées du Logiciel Libre in Lyon, a yearly vibrant event where FOSS (free open-source software) enthusiasts and professionals meet, network, exchanges ideas and attend or give talks on FOSS-related topics.

We also had the honor to speak to the public about XWiki and CryptPad's impact on knowledge sharing and organizing information, through our 3 presentations:
🎙️ Ludovic showcased Cristal, our modern knowledge base front-end and wiki UI to rule them all.
🎙️ Fabrice discussed CryptPad, our privacy-friendly solution perfect for organizing your information and collaborating in real-time. The presentation slides are available here
🎙️ Clément presented openDesk, the sovereign collaborative suite that stands out as an alternative to Google Workplace and Microsoft 365, plus a demo of the latest version.

🔐 Pas Sage en Seine

Pas Sage en Seine is an annual festival with a focus on privacy-related society questions and around the hacker community. Fabrice attended the event and gave an insightful talk to explain how CryptPad works. In his own words:

Fabrice Mouhartem, CryptPad R&D Engineer

During this event, I gave a semi-technical talk for this public about CryptPad and how it works. I further presented the conclusions of the NlNet Blueprints, and different future directions, such as how to make CryptPad more usable with offline edition using CRDTs. This was also an opportunity to advertise our blog post about the most secure way of using CryptPad. Moreover, InterHack, an aggregation of hackerspaces, also asked me to organise an install party for CryptPad. This was to show how it can be securely installed for admins, and the event gave me valuable feedbacks on how to ease the installation of a CryptPad instance.

If you want to learn more about this presentation, you can watch the recording or take a look at the slideshow.

🔭 OW2con'24

Our presence at OW2con has already become a tradition. This year we were, once again, glad to attend the event and also be among the Silver sponsors. OW2con is an annual open-source event that gathers open-source experts, enthusiasts, and IT professionals to discuss the most recent trends and developments in the field. For 2024, the central theme revolved around open-source funding. We had 2 talks that fitted perfectly this topic, as you can see below:

  • Clément talked about openDesk, the open-source collaborative suite, financed by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI). You can watch the recording of his talk here.
  • Fabrice held a breakout session on CryptPad and the role of open-source in education, science, and research. The slides are available here

The presentations were well received, and we had people visiting our booth and inquiring about the usage and future developments of XWiki and CryptPad.

🎯 OpenExpo Europe

OpenExpo Europe is a major annual congress and professional fair on IT innovation in Europe. This year's theme was oriented around the power of GenAI. For this event, Ștefana and Ludovic travelled to Madrid to meet with other industry actors and welcomed visitors at our stand to answer questions related to:

  • XWiki, the top open-source alternative to Confluence and Notion, designed to keep your knowledge secure and organized;
  • CryptPad, our end-to-end encrypted suite for real-time editing & collaboration;
  • WAISE, our new kid on the block that leverages AI to elevate your wiki experience, now available in beta version.

Ștefana also held a session about migrating from Confluence to XWiki using our powerful Confluence Migrator (Pro), while preserving all data, macros, users, and permissions. Her talk included a short presentation of the prerequisites and resources needed to transition to XWiki, followed by a live demo on how to migrate from Confluence to XWiki within minutes.
